Why wearing underwear to bed is bad for you

It is better to let your private parts breathe at night time
Most of us will drift off to the land of nod wearing a cosy pair of jammies and many of us will also go to bed wearing our undies. Fairly harmless right? Wrong! Wearing underwear to bed is actually bad for you.
It turns out wearing underwear to bed leads to irritation and infection of your nether regions.
As a result of wearing your undies in bed, your body may become sweaty in certain areas and that can cause a build-up of nasty bacteria.
Dr Alyssa Dweck, a gynaecology specialist in New York State has warned patients to sleep minus their underwear.
“If [the area] is constantly covered – especially by a fabric that’s not moisture-wicking or absorbent- moisture collects, creating the perfect breeding ground for bacteria or yeast.”
This build-up of bacteria can cause irritation and infections and also encourage thrush.
If you cannot go to bed without your undies though Dr Dweck suggests you pick some loose fitting cotton pants.
The problem is also worse for men than women and may affect male fertility. Dr Brian Steixner Director of the Institute for Men’s Health at Jersey Urology Group in the US, warned that wearing tight boxers to bed can lower the quality of sperm as the genital area overheats during the night.
